1/4/26 - Spiritual Resolutions for 2026

January 4, 2026

In this first-Sunday combined service, the English and Spanish congregations worship together through bilingual singing, shared prayer, and a unified message to begin the new year with purpose. The service opens with encouragement to start 2026 remembering that Jesus Christ is constant and faithful, and the church lifts up members and families in prayer, asking God to strengthen the congregation for a new year of unity and worship.

During children’s worship, the story of Noah is used to connect New Year’s to God’s promise and renewal. The children are reminded that the rainbow is a sign of God’s covenant and a hopeful reminder that it is okay to start over with God’s help, especially on hard days.

The communion meditation centers on Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane (Mark 14:32–36). The message contrasts how people often make impulsive choices without counting the cost, while Jesus knew exactly where His path led and still submitted to the Father’s will. By taking the bread and the cup, the church remembers Christ’s willing sacrifice and the grace His obedience secured for us.

The sermon reflection focuses on spiritual resolutions. The congregation is encouraged not to limit “New Year’s resolutions” to physical or financial goals, but to make firm, God-centered commitments that shape daily discipleship. From Luke 9:51, the church is reminded that Jesus “resolutely set out for Jerusalem,” staying focused on His mission even when others were distracted. The message calls every believer to choose clarity over “fluffy” distractions, to pursue humility and service, and to commit to spiritual disciplines that bear fruit for God’s glory throughout 2026.
